ENVIRONMENTAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Cycling through this landscape is a privilege. That’s why we all share the responsibility of protecting its biodiversity, scenery, and local communities. Here are some essential guidelines:
NATURE RESERVES
The province of Jaén is home to four natural parks, forming an exceptional network of protected areas where stunning landscapes, biodiversity, and rich cultural heritage come together:
- Sierras de Cazorla, Segura y Las Villas Natural Park
The largest protected area in Spain and the second largest in Europe. It boasts great biodiversity, with mountain landscapes, crystal-clear rivers, and dense forests. It is the source of the Guadalquivir River and a paradise for hiking, cycling, and wildlife observation. - Sierra Mágina Natural Park
Dominated by the silhouette of Mount Mágina (2,167 m), this park combines rugged mountain terrain with olive groves. It offers spectacular trails and wide views over the Jaén countryside, as well as a rich cultural tradition. - Sierra de Andújar Natural Park
A refuge for iconic species such as the Iberian lynx, imperial eagle, and black vulture. This park represents one of the best-preserved Mediterranean forest ecosystems on the Iberian Peninsula. It is also a spiritual site, home to the sanctuary of the Virgin of the Head (Virgen de la Cabeza). - Despeñaperros Natural Park
The natural gateway to Andalusia from the north, with spectacular gorges and unique geological formations. It is a key area for both history and biodiversity, featuring routes that pass through cork oak forests and viewpoints overlooking dramatic canyons.
These parks not only enrich the landscape of Jaén but also make the province one of the top destinations for nature lovers, outdoor sports enthusiasts, and sustainable adventure seekers.
